The Summer I Turned Pretty, adapted from Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy, ended its third and final season Wednesday, Sept. 17. Producers also announced a movie adaptation as the romance drama closed out. No details have been confirmed about the upcoming movie.
Over three summers, the series grew into a phenomenon for young adult viewers, mixing romance and heartbreak. Each season built on Han’s original trilogy while drawing in new fans along the way.
The first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty premiered on June 17, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video. The series gained momentum with its second season, released July 14, 2023. Before concluding with a third and final season that debuted July 16, 2025, with new episodes releasing every Wednesday.
Season three of the show has drawn 25 million viewers worldwide, a 40% increase over season two. The book trilogy turned screen adaptation has been a major success and has received widespread attention from fans worldwide.
The show follows a love triangle between brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, and their lifelong family friend, Belly Conklin. Since childhood, Belly had a crush on Conrad but never believed he felt the same. One summer, after she matures, both brothers compete for her heart. The series traces their relationships from high school through college graduation.
Season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty begins at Finch College, where Belly and Jeremiah are in a long-term relationship. Their future together unravels after Jeremiah cheats on Belly during a trip to Cabo. After an accident involving her brother, Steven, Belly and Jeremiah reconcile, and Jeremiah proposes. As the wedding approaches, Belly begins to rekindle her connection with Conrad.
On the night before the ceremony, Conrad admits his feelings, prompting Jeremiah to call off the wedding. Belly later moves to Paris to focus on herself, but Conrad joins her there for her 22nd birthday, and the two reunite.
With the full series now released, fans have expressed mixed emotions about its ending.
“The ending felt very rushed,” said Sophia Romana, junior at the University of Tampa. “I wanted to see more of Belly and Conrad’s story, but I think they focused too much on her wedding with Jeremiah.”
Episodes one through nine build anticipation for Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding, leaving only the final two episodes to explore Belly and Conrad’s relationship.
“I was very excited to hear that there was going to be a movie,” said Leah Storr, a sophomore at UTampa. “It makes me feel better about the finale, knowing that there is more Belly and Conrad to come.”
Fans aren’t the only ones excited about this new movie, though. The author, Han, also believes a movie is the best way to conclude Belly’s story.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” said Han in an official press release. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
With the series now wrapped up, fans can look forward to the upcoming movie adaptation that continues Belly’s story.
