TAMPA, Fla. — Summer is right around the corner as the spring semester comes to a close. Whether you’re a student staying in town until school starts up again or just a visitor exploring the Gulf Coast, Tampa has something for everyone. Between Tampa’s restaurants, beaches, activities, and Instagram-worthy spots, there’s no shortage of places to explore this summer.

1. Take a Stroll on the Tampa Riverwalk

Start your day off right by getting some movement in! The Tampa Riverwalk is a 2.6-mile paved path running along the Hillsborough River. Regardless of whether you walk, run, or bike down the Riverwalk, you will come across restaurants, shops, art, and waterfront views. Extending from Armature Works to Sparkman Wharf, the Riverwalk often hosts events and live music on the weekends, making it a great spot to check out both during the day and night.

2. Explore Some Nature

Visit Lettuce Lake Conservation Park for bird watching, a wildlife viewing tower, or canoeing. Be on the lookout for alligators! If paddleboarding or swimming is more your thing, check out Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. Known for its pristine spring water, you can take a dip for just $13 for adults or $8 for children ages 6 to 12. If kids are tagging along, take them to the Weeki Wachee mermaid show.

3. Go on an Adventure

If you’re in an adventurous mood and want an action-packed day, go explore ZooTampa at Lowry Park. For some thrills, grab a ticket to Busch Gardens. With over 50 rides and attractions, be ready for a day full of fun. If you’re not into roller coasters, don’t worry! Busch Gardens is ready for your visit with award-winning entertainment, shows, and diverse attractions besides roller coasters.

4. Lay Out at the Beach

No summer in Florida is complete without some beach time. Although Tampa isn’t directly in the Gulf, it is just a quick drive from some of the highest-rated beaches in Florida. Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach are always fan favorites and are known for their clear, calm waters and powdery white sand.

5. Escape the Heat

After a nice, long beach day, you will probably need to escape the heat for a bit. You can stay cool and still enjoy all of the indoor activities that Tampa has to offer. At the Tampa Museum of Art, you can see everything from Greek and Roman antiques to modern and contemporary art. The museum often pairs its exhibits with summer workshops and events as well. The historical cigar capital of the world, Ybor City, is now home to numerous shops, museums, and restaurants. With a vibrant Cuban community in the area, enjoy an authentic Cuban sandwich from Florida’s oldest operating eatery, Columbia Restaurant.

6. Grab a Bite to Eat

Ybor isn’t the only place with great food. Tampa’s food scene is full of flavor and perfect for every foodie. Check out Armature Works for a community hub with innovative eateries. Originally the repair and storage facility for the Tampa Electric Street and Railway Company (formerly known as the Streetcar Barn), the transformed building is now an upscale food hall. If you’re in the mood for native-inspired food, check out Ulele Restaurant or, for Italian, take a peek at Forbici in Hyde Park. You can’t end a meal without a sweet treat! For ice cream, Hampton Chocolate Factory or Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams are great picks. If you’re feeling more like you could go for a bakery item, try The Salty Donut or Sprinkles Cupcakes.

Whether you’re in the mood for a good meal, a relaxing beach day, or an adventure, Tampa has you covered. Grab your sunglasses and your camera, and get ready to make some memories this summer.
