UT Stand, which is the student-led division of the Genocide Intervention Network, hosted Philip L. Gans on Monday, April 5 in the Plant Hall Music Room.
Gans survived the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland during the Holocaust. He spoke about his experiences there and how he feels now.
Hate is a strong word but for Gans he thinks it should be erased from the dictionary. Clothed in his original prison camp clothing Gans, sold bracelets that said “Erase the Hate.”
Bringing a Holocaust survivor on campus is the core of UT Stand’s mission which is “to empower individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide.
Any student who went to the event had the rare opportunity to see a holocaust survivor and one that they should never forget. “Ten to 15 years from now, there will be no survivors left,” Gans said. “You are all witnesses to a witness.”
