Spring Fashion in Full Swing For the Fashion Savvy Student

As most of the East Coast is still bundled up in down-jackets and a full winter wardrobe, Us Florida gals are sporting our year round summer attire.

Unfortunately, being caught up in the same wardrobe year long can become a drab and new season fashions can go right over our heads.

But the stores are stocking up on new Spring lines so keep your eyes out for a few of the newest trends. Happy Spring!

Bold Print: As women, it is our job to stand out in the crowd. We must look pulled together and fabulous, without being a fashion error.

Bold prints, including florals, exotic patterns, and daring colors are falling all over shirts and dresses this season. The only time you can wear full length patterns is with a dress, and with this the accessories and shoes must be kept simple, the dress is enough to make a statement.

The same goes for a shirt that stands out, the bottoms must flatter the shape and style, but they are not there to accentuate the outfit, the bottoms are there to simply support the shirt.

A beautiful flower print dress by Diane Von Furstenburg, “Madeline” is available at Bloomingdale’s. Although the price may be steep, this dress can be fancied up or kept simple with sandals. An example of a Worldy printed dress is available at Urban Outfitters.

Lux Summer in Siam Dress ($58), looks like it came right off the rack in an exotic country. Some of these dresses and shirts may pull you back into the ’70s, but don’t question yourself, remember the fashion world survives because it continues to grow in one big circle.

Sailor Pants: Accents of the nautical style have been around for a while, from anchor necklaces to striped boat neck shirts, but now sailor pants are becoming a staple in our wardrobes.

The appeal of these pants comes from their tailored yet laid back look. In order to not appear like a runway wannabe, look for sailor pants that aren’t as high waisted as models wear. Shopbop.com carries J Brand “Shoreman Sailor Jean” that fall below the waist, and onto the hips (where people our age normally wear them), and the crisp looking dark denim is flattering. A more casual pair, also available on Shopbop.com, are by Grey Ant, “Sailor Jean”. But for either style, Sailor Pants can be a scary fashion leap, just wear them with confidence and everyone will soon follow.

Cocktail Shorts: Considering night clubbing is a big hobby for UT students it is important we have ideas on what to wear for the night out.

It always seems to be a problem, jeans become stuffy and hot in the crowded clubs, and dresses can sometimes become a disaster on the dance floor.

Cocktail shorts are the perfect in between. They keep you cool, look hot in heels, and are flattering for all. They are not tight and butt-hugging, but they are sexy as hell.

The small pleat in the front, elongates the legs and slims them out, while the cuffs still make them look short. Cocktail shorts come in literally any colors, fabric, pattern and even length, that you desire.

Shopintuition.com carries ($82.99), and they come in colors such as apple, red, violent, and an assortment of others. (Vanessa Minillo was spotted wearing these specific shorts out and about).

Forever 21 also has an assortment of cocktail shorts from including linen, pinstripe, and solid colors (Pinstripe Cotton Short ($22.50), H81 Linen Cuff Short ($19.90), Spring Cuff Short ($17.80) Cocktail shorts can also be worn to class or to the beach with simple sandals and a plain tee.

Tailored ‘ Sophisticated: Even though we are college students, it’s not an excuse to look dowdy and scummy.

With that said, our campus students usually seem well kept and dressed nicely, but to pull all that together, Spring fashion is hinting towards blazers, shirt dresses, and button front shirts.

Blazers can look stiff on many people, a fun way to play up a blazer is pairing it with a vintage tee and jeans or shorts. Not all blazers are boxy, a good pick is a one-button, cropped jacket from Urban Outfitters (Back East Blazer; $58.) or Lux Railroad Stripe Blazer ($29.99) who, with its bright colors will liven up an outfit and not make it look to professional.

Shirt dresses have been in and out of style, this year a touch of frill and a delicate fabric make these dresses more girly than ever. Daisy Ruffled Tunic ($24.80) is available at Forever21.

Button front shirts can sometimes be mistaken for a work-only type of apparel, but between the vibrant colors and casual appeal, these shirts can be worn to class or out to a nice dinner. Check out stylish button fronts at Forever21, the assortment of different styles is over-whelming.

A few small fashion tips can take you a long way this spring semester. So get out of those sweats and big tee shirts, It is time for your wardrobe to bloom!
