Dr. Libor Ondras and Beth Waligorski will be presenting “Violin Transcriptions” on Oct. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon. The evening will feature works from Bach, Beethoven, Franck and Paganini.

Dr. Ondras is the director of the UT Orchestra. Beth Waligorski will accompany Dr. Ondras on the piano. Waligorski has accompanied musicians for over 40 years and 20 of those have been at The University of Tampa.

The first piece of the concert will be “Partita in D minor for solo violin” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Dr. Ondras will be playing the Ciacona part of this composition.

He pointed out that this composition is said to be one of the most challenging composition for a solo violin that Bach ever created. Bach wrote the composition in a polyphonic texture for only one instrument.

It is easier to play a polyphonic piece on a piano than it is to play on a viola, which has only four strings. Bach created this composition in honor of his first wife.

The second piece of the concert will be “Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major” by C
