Students returned to UT last week to find a general revival taking place all over campus, with Plant Hall and Rescom sporting some of the most vibrant changes.
Fresh gray paint outlined Plant Hall’s exterior, which underwent detailed work done over the summer. A new blacktop surrounds the flagpole, and new barrier poles blockade the walkway.
Sophomore John Rahman easily spotted one of the more striking changes on the inside of Plant Hall.
“I’ve definitely noticed the new woodflooring in Plant Hall,” he said.
Walking from Plant Hall to the Vaughn Center reveals new street signs at the corner of Poe Parkway and North B Street.
A fresh coat of tan paint can be found within stairwells and outside of the Ferman Conference room.
Rescom, one of the older living spaces on campus, also got some attention over the summer.
Fresh landscaping now surrounds the building, with woodchips and mulch replacing the blotchy grass and dirt of days past.
A new coat of paint also covers the hall and its balconies.
Students also agree that the new dorm, Stadium Center, is a nice addition to the campus skyline.
Jakki Aviles felt the dorm helps add to a rejuvenated look to campus.
“The architecture is really nice. I like the new seating and I think they added new trees along the path.”
This is also the first semester UT is operating under a four-college system, including: John H. Sykes College of Business, College of Arts and Letters, College of Natural and Health Sciences, and College of Social Sciences, Mathematics ‘ Education.
The breakdown of colleges replaces the two-college system which consisted of College of Business and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
UT’s brick-and-mortar structures weren’t the only spots on campus to receive a cosmetic update.
Spartanweb itself has a new, more modernized look as well.
An upgraded campus network now allows students to reach speeds of 100 mbps, doubling the previously available 50 mbps.
