TAMPA, Fla. — Taylor Swift announced her six-part The Eras Tour docuseries on Good Morning America on Monday, Oct. 13.
The series, titled The End of an Era, seemingly marks the final project related to Swift’s The Eras Tour. The first two episodes will be released on Disney+ on Dec. 12.
Alongside the docuseries, Swift also announced an extended concert film featuring The Tortured Poet’s Department era, which was not included in the earlier The Eras Tour film.
“It was the End of an Era and we knew it,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post. “We wanted to remember every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of our lives.”
Swift’s The Eras Tour spanned 21 months, starting March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and concluding Dec. 8, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.
She played a total of 149 shows in 51 different cities and five different continents. She also learned how to say “Welcome to The Eras Tour” in 15 different languages.
“She’s the most incredible performer and so inspiring as a friend,” said the trio Haim, who opened for Swift on multiple The Eras Tour dates.
The Eras Tour quickly became the highest-grossing tour of all time, surpassing $2 billion in revenue, setting multiple single-day attendance records, and featuring the most shows ever performed at Wembley Stadium.
Each show lasted roughly 3 1⁄2 hours, covering all 10 of her albums (as well as her eleventh, after its mid-touring release) and featuring an acoustic set with two unique surprise songs each night.
“The Eras Tour meant to me a place of whimsy and celebration. It meant being able to see the woman onstage who got me through the hardest and most fun parts of my life without even knowing it,” said 19-year-old Stephanie Woodie.
Fans who attended The Eras Tour dressed up in accordance with their favorite eras, traded friendship bracelets, and danced all night to years of Swift’s discography.
Now, with Swift’s The End of an Era docuseries, fans who couldn’t attend the tour can now experience the show and its behind-the-scenes moments.
This docuseries offers fans an experience unlike any other fan base’s, providing an intimate look at Taylor Swift’s creative process, the scale of The Eras Tour, and the deep connection between the artist and her audience that has become a defining part of her career.
Swift’s previous Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, explored her personal life, highlighting the pressures of fame and her openness about mental and physical health struggles.
The End of an Era, on the other hand, will explore “the most fun, joyful, exciting, intense, powerful and wonderful tour,” said Swift on Pagesix.
Behind the scenes of the tour, Swift experienced a breakup and later found love with Travis Kelce; the docuseries is expected to explore their relationship as well.
Swift will officially close the chapter of The Eras Tour era on Dec. 12 and turn her attention to her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, as well as creating new work and focusing on her personal relationships.
