BREAKING NEWS: Person in custody after Florida State University shooting leaves multiple injured

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Multiple injured after reports of an active shooting at the university around 12 p.m., according to multiple news outlets.

5:10 p.m.

The suspect has been identified as a 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, the son of a Leon County deputy. He was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, according to WFLA.

A Tallahassee Police spokesperson said officers confronted him and opened fire after he resisted orders, WFLA reported.

During a press conference, Leon County Sheriff Walter McNeil spoke about the incident.

The suspected shooter was a longstanding member of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Youth Advisory Counsel.

Police said the two victims killed were not students and not law enforcement.

Sheriff Walter McNeil said in the press conference that the investigators believe Ikner used his mother’s handgun.

His mother has been with the sheriff’s office for over 18 years.

“This event is tragic in more ways than you people in the audience could even fathom from a law enforcement persective, McNeil said.

FSU President Richard McChullough called it a “tragic day” for the university, said WFLA.

4:55 p.m.

Two people are dead and six injured. The suspect is the son of a Florida deputy, according to WFLA.

3:20 p.m.

Law enforcement confirmed they had “neutralized the threat.”

FSU Alert posted:

Law enforcement has neutralized the threat. Please avoid the Student Union, Bellamy, HCB Classroom Building, Rovetta A&B, Moore Auditorium, Shaw, Pepper, Hecht House and Carraway as they are still considered an active crime scene. Individuals are free to move about other areas of campus. Individuals who may have witnessed anything of value should call 850-891-4987.

A press conference will be held at 4:30.

FSU said all classes will be cancled through April 18 and all athletic events will be canceled through April 20.

2:47 p.m.

One death has been reported, according to NBC News.

One witness, who is a student, told NBC News the shooter was wearing a orange shirt and saw him shoot a woman, in purple scrubs, with a pistol.

1:25 p.m.

Six patients are now at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, said spokesperson Stephanie Derzypolski to Tallahassee Democrat.

One of the six patients is in critical condition and the rest are in serious condition, according to Derzypolski’s report to the Tallahassee Democrat.

1:05 p.m.

One person is now in custody and four are injured, according to CNN.

Law enforcement are currently clearing buildings at the university.

12:40 p.m.

FSU said all classes and university events, including athletic events, on Thursday have been canceled, according to ABC Action News.

The FBI is assisting authorities at FSU, an agency spokesperson told ABC News.

12:01 p.m.

An alert was issued by the campus. As of now the campus is still in lock down.

The reported shooter was located in the area of Student Union, according to WFLA.

ABC7 said students have reported hearing over 30 rounds of shots and everyone is asked to shelter in place and stay away from the university.

The last school shooting at FSU was in 2014 when an alumni was shot by police after opening fire, according to NBC News.
