Trans Day of Visibility, observed annually on March 31, is a time to celebrate the accomplishments, strength, and resilience of transgender and gender-diverse individuals. More than just a celebration of identity, this day also serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by trans communities all over. While we honor the courage it takes to live authentically, we are also called to confront the discrimination, violence, and systemic barriers that persist, making visibility not just a personal act but a collective responsibility.
Transgender activist Rachel Crandall-Crocker created this day to serve as a wake-up call to “increase awareness of the challenges gender-diverse communities face” and to appreciate the success of those who feel invisible. Being seen by those around you while facing these struggles can be a huge relief in itself.
In a world full of controversies and marginalization, media personalities such as Alex Consani stand out. From northern California, Consani is a social media celebrity, comedian, and model. Her career as a model started at a young age, allowing her to gain recognition early and work for many luxury and iconic brands.
In 2015, at just 12 years old, Alex Consani made history as the world’s youngest openly transgender model. Her career gained momentum from there — by 15, she had signed with the prestigious IMG Models in 2019, solidifying her place in the fashion world. Her rise to fame reached new heights in Oct. 2024 when she became one of the first openly transgender models to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. That same year, her influence and impact were recognized globally when she was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards — one of the highest honors in the industry.
“I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” Consani said at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards. “But I can’t accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who really fought for the space I’m in today.”
Appreciating Consani’s accomplishments sets an inspirational motif on the beauty standard and owning who you are. She centers her platform around embracing your character to its fullest potential. She describes the change as “more than possible, it’s needed.”
At only 21 years old, Alex Consani has already built an impressive career, making waves in the modeling industry and on social media. Beyond the runway, she has captivated audiences with her humor, authenticity, and charismatic presence. Her popularity skyrocketed when she began sharing her talents and vibrant personality online. Today, with 5.2 million followers on TikTok, Consani continues to inspire and entertain, using her platform to embrace self-expression and redefine beauty on her terms.
“I think she’s truly inspiring for younger girls out there, or anyone really, struggling with their identity or confidence,” said Mateo Clavero, a senior at The University of Tampa. “Coming from someone who was once uncomfortable in my own body, I love the way she expresses herself.”
Consani’s journey is a powerful example of what trans visibility can look like when met with support, opportunity, and celebration. Her story reflects the progress made and highlights the importance of genuine representation.
As we reflect on this day, let it serve not only as a celebration but as a call to action. Honoring trans lives means amplifying voices like Consani’s and continuing to create space for others to be seen and heard. We each have a role in shaping a more inclusive and compassionate future where everyone has the freedom to be visible, valued, and fully themselves.
