The Life After UT Senior Chat will provide a forum to discuss your questions and concerns about jobs, grad school, moving, finances, and adulting. This event is an excellent opportunity to chat about your options and how to make the most of them. The date and time for this event are yet to be determined, so stay tuned to the global email for updates.
Juliette Valley, a senior biology major at UT, shares her post-graduation plans and the guidance she has received from UT. She acknowledges the helpful advice she has received from UT, ranging from job opportunities to approaching graduate studies. Juliette says, “My plan post-grad is to start in an entry-level research position and then eventually go into grad school.”
Immersing yourself and gaining knowledge from available resources is essential in figuring out post-graduation plans. Juliette’s experience highlights the importance of setting clear goals and seeking guidance to navigate the path toward postgraduate endeavors.
Additionally, the LinkedIn 101 Workshop, which will be held on April 18th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in ADLC (Tech 155), will teach you how to make your LinkedIn profile work for you. Discover tips and tricks for finding jobs, making connections, and networking effectively.
Elle Brockhaug, a senior marketing major at UT, emphasizes the importance of LinkedIn in her journey toward post-graduation success. She highly recommends utilizing LinkedIn as a tool for professional growth, emphasizing its value in connecting with professionals and gaining insights into postgraduate success.
She shares, “LinkedIn has been an essential platform for me as a student. I have been able to connect with professionals, grow my understanding of what I need to do to be successful as an upcoming graduate, and find my post-grad job.”
UT graduate Justin Tulley said, “Always maintain professionalism at work and around colleagues. I often see kids my age, just starting their first job out of college, still acting and talking like a college kid instead of a professional. Maintaining professionalism will help separate yourself from others in similar situations.”
Alongside maintaining professionalism, Justin emphasizes the importance of being diligent and dedicated in your work. Attention to detail and dedication to completing career goals are huge factors related to success in any future career.
“Be the hardest working person every day. Be the first one there and the last one to leave. Higher-ups recognize this, which will help set you up for success.” Justin acknowledges that challenges are a part of the journey and encourages recent grads to learn from setbacks and strive to improve daily. He also suggests focusing on work during the week and enjoying weekends with friends to maintain an excellent work-life balance.
Justin’s advice aligns with the success of UT graduates, as reflected in the survey results of the Class of 2022, highlighting the university’s commitment to preparing students for postgraduate success.
According to a survey of the Class of 2022 (May, Aug., Dec. graduates), 97.1% reported success in achieving their postgraduate goals. These statistics demonstrate the effectiveness of UT’s preparation and support programs and serve as a testament to the potential for success that awaits you as you embark on your postgraduate journey.
