UT fraternity and sorority life hosted Battle of the Genres for 2024 Greek Week. This year, the teams were based on music genres. Team Alternative was given to SDT, FIJI, and SigEp. Team Musical was DZ, ZBT, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority Inc. Team Rap was AXO, ATO, and DU. Team Pop was Theta, Phi Delt, and Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity Inc. Team EDM was AEPi, SK, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Team Country was Dphie, TKE, and  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. 

FSL donated the Greek Week to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay this year. Teams have to get as many donations as possible all week, and the winning team receives 400 points. Just in Flash fundraising, all teams raised $62,717. All together, teams raised $62,717. The team with the most donations was Team Alternative, with $42,750.  

The Sidewalk Chalk event kicked off Greek Week. Each team was given a chance to represent their team with chalk artistically. Team Musical was given 1st place for this event, followed by Team Alternative and Team EDM in second and third place. 

Bubble Soccer is a twist on soccer as the players stay in human hamster balls. 7th place was Team Rap. 6th place was Team Musical. 5th place was Team Country.  4th place was Team Pop. 3rd was Team Rock. Team Alternative was given first place for this event. 

During the UT women’s basketball game, the teams participated in mini-games. The team poster winners were Team Rock. The knockout winners were Team Musical. The fruit roll-up eating contest winner was awarded to Team Rap. 

“I loved watching all of the teams support the girl’s basketball team and show off their posters,” said Cami Molnar, Dphie freshman.

Teams participated in Jeopardy and were asked questions all about FSL and more. 7th place was given to Team Alternative. 6th place was Team Rock. 5th place was given to Team Country. 4th was Team Pop. 3rd place was Team EDM. 2nd was given to Team Rap. Awarded 1st place was Team Musical. 

The pop tab contest awarded teams with the most tabs collected. Team Alternative was given 1st place for this event, followed by Team Rap and Team Musical in second and third place. 

“I am so proud of my team,” said Keira Anderson, a freshman in Dphie. “Team Country collected over 3000 can tab alone.” 

The Greek Variety Show ends Greek Week when each team choreographs a dance for everyone to participate in and watch. Total ticket sales for GVS were $9,300 and are all towards Relay for Life.  Team Alternative won first place with their dance. 

“GVS taught me how to collaborate and work with dancers of many different levels to be able to help choreograph something everyone could do,” said Maile Fisher, freshman in Theta.

All of these events allowed each team to earn points throughout the week. The overall winner of Greek Week 2024 was awarded to Team Musical.
