The Final Films of 2022

Zachary Kershaw

The film industry and the cultural landscape as we know it today changes constantly, and with them, the types of movies society creates.

One of the biggest factors affecting the film industry is the idea of quantity over quality. Companies have begun pushing out movies rapidly to quench fans’ insatiable appetites.

Following the pandemic, remaining movie theaters across the nation  hope to continue showing highly anticipated films. But the number of theaters in the United States may begin to dwindle soon.

“We don’t go to the theaters anymore because we don’t have to,” said Lowell Harris, communications professor at The University of Tampa.

On the bright side, the theater remains the ultimate place to view films.

“The theater is the best venue to watch a film,” said Harris. “You can’t truly experience the film on a laptop or tv.”

Aside from the studios themselves, there are other factors that dictate film popularity and heavily influence box office numbers, such as streaming services. However, there are certain strategies implemented to counteract the inevitability of streaming services.

“Many films are ‘only in theaters,’ this is good because the theaters make those profits, not the streaming services. They get access later,” said Harris.

With 2023 on the horizon, it can be easy to look forward to the future to see what is ahead. However, there are still plenty of entertaining movies coming out this year that warrant watching. So, here are some of the remaining highly anticipated films in 2022:
