The Women’s History Month Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, March 23 from 12 to 1 pm on the ninth floor of Vaughn. This year’s theme is honoring women in public service and government. Guest speakers include Carolyn Bricklemyer, retired chair of the Hillsborough County School Board; Jane Castor, retired Tampa Chief of Police; and Yvonne Fry, Chair of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women.

Yvonne Fry plans to educate attendees about the Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women and explain why the commission exists and why it’s important. Fry has attended the luncheon before and looks forward to visiting UT’s campus again.

“It’s always interesting to go to the University of Tampa,” Fry said. “The fresh perspective and the environment and culture there is the cutting edge of our world.”

Fry hopes that, through the luncheon, students gain an appreciation of the journey women have taken in order to procure their rights.

“There’s been such a long history of basic rights that haven’t been guaranteed to women,” Fry said. “By appreciating, studying, and continuing to work on those things, we can ensure we won’t go backwards.”
