Gay Marriage Across the U.S.

There have been large strides in making L.G.B.T.Q. (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning)  rights equal across all states. According to The Huffington Post, Illinois has become the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage while the other 35 states still have not legalized it. As more and more states begin to embrace same-sex marriage and create equal rights many students don’t seem to know what the laws and policies in their states are or if they have any.

Nikki Palmer – California

“I strongly believe that gays should have the right to marry. After the repeal of Proposition 8. I am proud to say that I am from California where people are judged for the content of their character, not by their sexual orientation.”

Heather Muse – Florida

“I feel like people should not be shown hatred because of who they love. Everyone should be given the same equality and rights despite race, religion or who they want to marry.”

Rachel Christ – New Jersey

“I feel like I am well informed about gay and lesbian rights because I live in New Jersey, and it’s a very prominent issue there. I feel that all of the states do a great job making sure their citizens are aware.”

Aaron Betancourt – New York

“I know that in New York we passed the gay marriage law, and gay and lesbian couples are allowed to adopt. I know what the general law is about and the general information about how it affects those involved.”

Lillian Cousins – Maine

“A lot of people in Maine are older people who have retired. They’re more conservative and have an old-fashioned way of thinking. I think it’s important for the government to let them know the facts about gay marriage.”
