It has been 13 years since the last episode of Boy Meets World aired, and now the show is being brought back with a spin-off called Girl Meets World. On November 25, 2012 Ben Savage, the actor who plays Cory, tweeted “I’m going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The Boy Meets World sequel is officially happening!”
Cory and Topanga are all grown up and have two children named Riley and Eliot, but instead of Cory and Topanga playing the lead roles, Girl Meets World will focus on their daughter, Riley, played by Rowan Blanchard. Topanga becomes a lawyer while Cory follows in the footsteps of Mr. Feeny and becomes a seventh grade history teacher.
After watching the show for seven seasons some fans are having a hard time adjusting to the idea that the show will not focus on Cory and Topanga.
“I’m excited for the show to return because it’s one of my childhood favorites, and I want to see how the cast is now. I’m not too sure how much I like that it’s from the daughter’s point of view, but the actress looks good,” film major Mayleen Cordero said.
“If they make it for our generation so it would be geared for students our age, I would watch it,” Mikey Hupp said.
According to The Huffington Post, Danielle Fishel, who plays Topanga, and Ben Savage, who plays Cory, were reunited for Girl Meets World via text message.
“It was really cute because I had already talked to [series creator Michael Jacobs] and I didn’t know if Ben had already talked to Michael. Then one night I got a text from Ben that just said, ‘Hey what do you think about being my wife again?’” Fishel said. After that, the two child stars reunited on set as a married couple.
Rowan Blanchard acted in Spy Kids: All the Time in World in 4D and The Back-Up Plan. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blanchard revealed she almost did not receive the job due to director Michael Jacobs realization that she was younger than the character she was auditioning to play.
The show will also feature Teo Halm who will play Elliot, Riley’s older brother. Also, a few other cast members from Boy Meets World are expected to appear on the spinoff. Mr. Feeny, played by William Daniels, has confirmed he will be on the season premiere. Cory’s best friend Shawn Hunter, played by Rider Strong, who was known for being the rebellious kid on Boy Meets World, has announced he will not appear on the show. Strong’s busy lifestyle has caused him to focus on screenwriting, producing and directing. Eric, Cory’s older brother played by Will Friedle, has neither confirmed nor denied whether he will appear on the show.
Because the date of the show’s premiere has not been announced yet, many fans are left to wait anxiously to see Cory and Topanga’s transformation from kids to parents.
