After a three and a half year hiatus, the beloved pop punk band Fall Out Boy announced their return to music, much to the delight of fans.
When PropertyofZack.com, a prominent Tumblr-based alternative rock news source, reported on Jan. 25 that Fall Out Boy would be returning and told fans to expect an official announcement in the following weeks, many were understandably skeptical because many false rumors about their reunion had sprouted up in the past. These feelings of doubt only grew when guitarist Joe Trohman and bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz said that the rumor was false.
However, these statements were proven to be all part of a façade when a Chicago radio station announced Fall Out Boy’s reunion followed by the introduction of the band’s newest song “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up).” Following Fall Out Boy tradition, this single has already polarized many fans, burning all notions of a punk style and opening new doors to a more modern, pop sound.
This summer, the band will embark on a nationwide tour in support of their new album, Save Rock and Roll, out May 7th. The album will come four and half years after their last album, Folie a Deux, and 10 years after their debut album, Take This To Your Grave.
It is safe to say that the band has not lost its diehard fans quiet yet, seeing as the new single is currently number two on iTunes.
“This isn’t a reunion because we never broke up,” the band said after the official news finally broke. “The future of Fall Out Boy starts now.”
Fall Out Boy’s new single “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” is available on iTunes now, and their fifth studio album Save Rock and Roll will be released May 6 and is available now for preorder.
