A University of Tampa student was the victim of a hit-and-run accident while riding his bicycle near Howard Avenue in South Tampa early Sunday morning.
Vincent Lanci, 21 and a senior at UT, has been hospitalized at Tampa General Hospital and is in critical condition.
“Sometime this morning, [Lanci] went into surgery for his leg,” said Stephanie Russell Krebs, Dean of Students at UT on Monday.
Krebs hasn’t heard anything else on Lanci’s condition or the investigation, but that the Tampa Police Department is actively pursuing the perpetrator.
According to Tampa Bay Times, the car that hit Lanci while he was crossing from N Howard Avenue to North A Avenue was a gray, 2007 Acura TL sedan, which is missing the right-side mirror and was last seen heading north on Howard Avenue near Interstate 275.
Tampa police is asking any one with information about the crash to call them at (813) 231-6130.
