Homecoming 2012 is just a few weeks away, and UT Student Productions is putting the finishing touches on plans for a week full of activities.
The five day Homecoming will begin Oct. 17 and end on Sunday, Oct. 21. Student Productions is planning events ranging from casino night to crowning king and queen at women’s volleyball game.
All events will be held on campus and each day they will be filled with games and prizes.
Day one of Homecoming will include a God and Goddess Pageant, scheduled for 8-11 p.m. in Vaughn Lobby on Oct. 17. Students will be able to watch organizations’ representatives compete in a pageant for the God or Goddess title. They will also be able to get free Henna and take pictures in a photo booth.
Other events for Homecoming that weekend include a casino night where students can win more than $2,000 in prizes. Last year, students walked off with TVs, headphones and X-Box gaming systems.
Volleyball is the sport of choice for this year’s Homecoming game, scheduled for seven p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 in Martinez Sports Center. Last year, they crowned king and queen during halftime of the game.
Graduate Kelsey Thomas, who won queen last year, said, “It was an honor to win queen. I was a part of several organizations at the school, so it was like I was being rewarded for all the work I’ve done.”
The King and Queen have to be seniors at the university in order to be nominated.
Homecoming week gathers student on campus for different events, games and prizes. It is a way for students to join together and show their Spartan pride.
