The University of Tampa’s women’s basketball team enters the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a bang.

After facing a tough loss to conference rival Florida Southern last Wednesday, the Spartans rebounded nicely with a senior-night victory over their other rival Florida Tech.

UT shot 47 percent from the field while holding Tech to a less-than-par 34 percent.

Freshman guard Lindsey Watson lead the way for the Spartans, finishing with 21 points while also leaving the free throw line having made all 11 of her attempts.

UT dominated the game as a whole. They shot 83 percent from three-point range and controlled the glass, recording 43 rebounds to Tech’s 36.

Seniors Taja Green, Gianna Messina and Catriana Messina left Bob Martinez Sports Center playing their last regular season game at UT.

They all left in impressive fashion. Gianna Messina dropped 12 points and snagged seven rebounds while her twin sister Catriana recorded 11 points and dished out six assists for the Spartans.

Taja Green finished her UT career with 10 points and one block.

Green and Gianna Messina finish the regular season both averaging 15.6 PPG. They look to lead the squad into a strong showing in the SSC tournament.

The Spartans, 20-6 overall and 12-4 in SSC play, finish second behind Florida Southern in conference standings to close out the regular season.

UT will host the first round game against Lynn, this Wednesday, March 2.

The Spartans are 11-1 at home this season and look to use that to their advantage in SSC play.
