Fall 2010 Sorority Recruitment is this weekend, and just as I was last year, I’m sure PNM’s (Potential New Members) are freaking out about what to wear.
Even though it was all discussed during the PNM meeting, I remember standing in front of my closet for hours before the start of each day or night clueless about what to put on.
One morning I changed my outfit four times before I decided to leave.
So now I’m here to help make things a bit easier with some cheap, yet chic, options to help each one of you look your absolute best.
Open House Night
The first night of recruitment is the most casual night, since this is when active members are first meeting PNM’s.
Given that this is the longest night of three days, please keep comfort in mind.
Four-inch heels may not be the best option. You will be standing for about 5 hours, so consider flats or sandals.
My most favorite stores to buy footwear from without having to splurge are Forever 21 and American Eagle.
Both stores, as most know, offer a good selection of trendy, adorable, and affordable options.
Outfits with color are also great for the first day, because it will help you stand out.
Floral-printed sundresses would be a good selection.
Just make sure the hemline is not too short.
Or opt for a cute top with sequins or beading paired with skinny jeans.
Philanthropy Event
The second day is not as casual as the previous night, so consider wearing an outfit that is more business-casual.
I chose to wear a basic white v-neck t-shirt with a black high-waist ruffle-tiered skirt (both items purchased at Forever21 for less than $30) and black flats purchased at Wet Seal.
Accessories made my outfit when I selected a draped chain necklace from Forever21.
An outfit like the one I wore, or dresses with short sleeves and appropriate hemlines are the best options.
Flats, dressy sandals, or low pumps with cute accessories, like long necklaces or several necklaces piled, help make outfits look even better.
If you need something to wear for this night, Forever21 and Zara are great stores to find the perfect Philanthropy Day outfit.
Preference Day
Preference Day is my favorite for getting all dolled-up.
Since the chapters will either be wearing black or white, stay away from these extremes and think about wearing a dress with color.
Cocktail dresses will be your best bet.
Heels or flats are a must, so please leave your flip-flops and sandals at home.
I purchased my Preference Day dress at Macy’s last year, and spent $25.
My heels were from Traffic and cost only $20.
For $45, I had a cute ensemble that got me several compliments.
The dress was a pink, green and white floral pattern with a pink ribbon and bow underneath the bust.
My heels were nude patent leather pumps.
Fashion tip: nude pumps elongate the look of your legs; every woman should own a pair.
This is the day when you want to look your absolute best, as this is the last time to seal the deal with the chapter you want.
So don’t be afraid to stand out amongst the girls.
Bid Night
Get super excited ladies, because this is when you all will be receiving your bids, in addition to your Bid Day shirts.
Wear a basic tank or cami (preferably black or white) with denim shorts and flip-flops.
This night is all about welcoming you to each chapter, so don’t worry about what you wear.
If you need to get a basic cami, make a quick trip to Forever21; they have every color possible for $2.50.
I stock up every chance I get.
I hope this quick guide helps with any outfit problems you may have this weekend.
