Fourteen UT students joined Dr. Norma Winston to travel throughout New Zealand and Sydney, Australia this past May.
The group studied ethnicity and culture on the small island of approximately 4 million people, focusing on the history of relations between the indigenous Maori people and New Zealand’s European settlers.
The students toured more than six of New Zealand’s cities, encompassing both the North and South island, in just over two weeks. They then went on to spend a few days in Sydney, Australia before returning to Tampa.
From sheep shows to hangis (a traditional Maori dinner ceremony), students experienced many firsts during their stay.
