UT Sigma Chis Learn to be Lasting Leaders

Thanks to Sigma Chi’s Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, held Aug. 2 through Aug. 4 at the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Tampa has five more enduring leaders.

Jon Howard, Paul Finelli, Dan Davis, Chris Persaud and Peter Arrabal attended Balfour LTW, the largest gathering of its kind in the Greek-letter world.

This year the annual workshop drew more than 1,100 undergraduates from Sigma Chi’s 220 chapters in the United States to Columbia.

Throughout the four days of Balfour LTW, chapter presidents, vice presidents, risk managers, recruitment chairmen, treasurers, new member educators and emerging leaders enhanced their values-based leadership skills through deep immersion in presentations, discussions and problem-solving sessions.

The men learned how to empower others in their chapter and how to engage them in successful teamwork.

“BLTW gave us the opportunity to meet other officers from Sigma Chi chapters across the nation who understand the problems we are facing and who could give us advice on how to overcome them,” said Jon Howard, the Tampa chapter’s president. “Being a new chapter, we benefited from the experience of older chapters. BLTW also helped me individually by talking to other presidents who showed me how to become a better leader.”

The workshop is held every summer at various universities across the country where Sigma Chi chapters exist.
