“Dolphin Tale” premiered nearly 15 years ago, earning $95.9 million worldwide on a $37 million budget. Inspired by a true story, the film follows Winter, the dolphin, and her recovery after losing her tail and her journey to swim again with a prosthetic.
Winter’s story inspired countless people, including many amputees, to visit her at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, bringing a huge increase in revenue to the facility.
The film’s success and Winter’s fame helped transform the aquarium, which is primarily a marine rescue and rehabilitation center, by funding major renovations that have allowed it to care for more animals.
