According to Hard Rock Bet, “the Seminole Tribe of Florida, in particular, offers statewide sports betting based on a 30-year exclusive gaming compact.”
Therefore, the only authorized sports betting option available to Floridians is Hard Rock Bet. Because of this, Florida has one of the most intriguing sports betting scenes in the nation.
Like other states where online betting is legal, Florida has a 21-year-old minimum age requirement for sports betting. Experts warn about the darker, frequently concealed repercussions of sports gambling, especially on young adults, students, and impulsive gamblers, despite age limitations and integrated responsible gaming measures.
Moneyline winners, over/under (totals), spreads, parlays, same-game parlays, and teasers are among the many bets that users can place at Hard Rock Bet. Both its desktop and mobile systems, which provide real-time in-game betting capabilities, make these accessible.

“The rate of gambling problems among sports bettors is at least twice as high as among gamblers in general,” according to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG). “When sports gambling is conducted online, the rate of problems is even higher, with one study of online sports gamblers indicating that 16% met clinical criteria for gambling disorder and another 13% showed some signs of gambling problems.”
College students and young people are especially vulnerable. Over 75% of students acknowledged gambling, with over 13% specifically wagering on sports, according to a 2018 study evaluated by Dr. Jeffrey Derevensky and Ken Winters. The data demonstrated that adolescent male gamblers were far more prone to encountering severe issues, which were frequently brought on by advertising, peer betting, and impulsive behaviors.
“It’s a side hustle for me, but for a lot of people, it’s a mainstream source of income because they take this seriously,” said Aveus Bush Jr., a 29-year-old Tampa resident.
Bush said it does not affect his emotions, but instead, it affects his money. It triggers him when his money is being used to take a risk.
“Heavy sports bettors who meet the criteria for clinical gambling disorder are typically male, young (up to age 35), single, fully employed, and have a high level of education,” said the NCPG. “They think sports gambling is more skill than luck, suggesting they’re prone to distortions in thinking.”
Legal sports betting became widely available when the Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018. Although this helped states create jobs and tax income, it also resulted in expanded access, glamorization of gambling, and aggressive marketing — all without a commensurate increase in resources for prevention and treatment.
Free, private assistance is available around the clock by phone, text, and chat from groups like NCPG. However, many consumers are not aware that these services are available.
