TAMPA, Fla. — This past fall, Zeta Tau Alpha returned to campus, becoming the newest addition to Greek life at The University of Tampa. Since its reestablishment, the Gamma Sigma chapter has brought new opportunities for sisterhood and philanthropy to campus.
Each sorority on campus has an annual signature event, which raises money for its philanthropy and involves anyone interested on campus.
Zeta Tau Alpha will host their first signature event, Courts Against Cancer, this spring. The event will be fundraising for their national philanthropy: the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, which supports breast cancer education and awareness.
During this philanthropic pickleball tournament, student teams will compete for the victory, while enjoying refreshments and having a fun time.
Adriana Stanovich, president of UTampa’s chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, explained the planning process that has happened so far.
“Our first signature event has been in the works for a while now, and it is all coming together so well,” said Stanovich. “We love sharing why our philanthropy is so important to us, and this event will be an amazing way for our campus to come together and support it.”
The event will take place on March 26 from 8:30 to 11 p.m. on UTampa’s tennis courts.
Ariel Haley, Zeta Tau Alpha’s vice president of philanthropy at UTampa, could not be more excited for the event.
“With pickleball being so popular right now, we figured it would be the perfect event to get as many people involved as possible,” said Haley.
Poppi will sponsor the event, featuring the pickleball tournament as the main event. Plus, there will be side games like cornhole and a bake sale, giving people a fun way to join in even if they’re not playing in the tournament.
Zeta Tau Alpha will also be selling T-shirts, with proceeds going toward supporting the chapter’s philanthropy.
All proceeds from Courts Against Cancer will go directly to Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy, which works with organizations such as the NFL, the American Cancer Society, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to fund research, early detection programs, and education initiatives.
Each dollar raised will help advance treatment options for patients and educate those who are less aware of the disease.
You’ll often hear members of Zeta Tau Alpha mentioning that one in eight women get breast cancer during their lives. From their national website, you can read more about their mission and how “this cause is personal. Breast cancer touches many lives.”
With their first annual signature event just around the corner, Zeta Tau Alpha is making it clear that they are eager to make a difference, create new connections, and host a signature event that supports breast cancer education and awareness. They encourage everyone to stop by the event to support their philanthropy and their chapter’s first signature event on campus.
Being the newest sorority on campus, Zeta Tau Alpha anticipates a great turnout and an even better time.
Team registration for the event will open soon, with more details available on Zeta Tau Alpha’s socials.
