The 67th Annual Grammy Awards, held on Feb. 2, 2025, in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, was a night of celebration and controversy. While performers like Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar won big, fans of Billie Eilish were disappointed when she did not win anything despite many nominations.
Eilish received seven Grammy nominations in 2025, including Album of the Year for HIT ME HARD AND SOFT and Record of the Year for “Birds of a Feather.” Her performance of “Birds of a Feather” was a touching tribute to her home of Los Angeles, expressing her strong bond with the city.
The winners of the awards shocked many of Eilish’s supporters. Social media networks, like X, were flooded with concerns, with some viewers branding the event “the Scammys” because of alleged unfairness.
One fan was upset on The Sun, saying, “Imagine spending 4 years making an album, learning composition skills to compose an orchestral beginning and ending to an album, getting top in the charts for 8 months straight, having a song that streamed 2 billion times, and winning tears of gloom. Billie got robed.”
When it became clear that Eilish would finish the night with no wins, online fans started comparing her album to Beyoncé’s. According to several listeners on The Blast, Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft was more deserving than many other published projects, including Cowboy Carter.
Following the reactions, Finneas O’Connell, Eilish’s brother and collaborator, handled the situation gracefully. He urged fans to accept the outcome quietly and to recognize the accomplishments of all artists. O’Connell underlined the necessity of maintaining a positive atmosphere both online and offline.
“Great Grammys!!!” he posted on his Instagram Story after the event. “So honored to have been nominated amongst so many amazing songs/ albums. I don’t wanna see ANYONE with a photo of me or Billie as their PFP [profile picture] gettin’ in fights with other artists’ fans in comment sections!!!”
However, O’Connell’s remarks didn’t do much to calm the angered fans of Eilish.
After the awards show came to an end and its results left an array of emotions, a familiar debate was reignited about the legitimacy of the Grammys and their voting process. Many fans think that the Recording Academy neglects actual talent in favor of economic success or corporate politics.
This view has been reflected in prior years, with musicians like The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj previously calling out the Grammys for their selection process.
Others see the awards as being detached from real listeners, while others argue that they are only a mirror of industry behaviors.
“The Grammys are supposed to recognize the best music of the year, and yet they keep snubbing artists who redefine the industry. Billie Eilish deserved at least one award,” a Reddit user commented in a popular thread showing Eilish’s tears as Beyoncé won album of the year.
Eilish is still regarded as one of the most prominent artists of her time in spite of the setback. Her album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT has received praise for its unique production, emotional transparency, and sound that blurs boundaries between genres.
Her fans continue to support her, buying her merchandise, playing her songs, and protecting her legacy online, regardless of whether the Recording Academy recognizes her work.
Eilish’s career has always exceeded awards. Her talent for engaging listeners with genuine and heartfelt storytelling proves that she will continue to be an important figure in the industry. Although the Grammys may have missed recognizing her this time, Eilish’s influence and artistry stay in shaping the music landscape, showing that true success goes beyond trophies and awards.
