Best and Worst Dressed at the Grammys

By Kyra Sansone

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles last week. Celebrating the most significant music achievements and delivering the boldest fashion moments, the Crypto.com Arena was filled with exceptional music and fashion choices that had everyone talking.

While some celebrities wowed with their show-stopping ensembles, others left fans questioning their fashion choices. To get an inside look at this year’s best and worst-dressed celebrities, The University of Tampa students shared their thoughts.

Stephanie Pinelli, a freshman at UTampa, found one outfit specifically unforgettable. “The most memorable outfit of the night was Bianca Censori’s nude outfit — or lack thereof,” she said.

For many viewers, including Pinelli, this outfit choice felt more like a publicity stunt than a fashion statement.

Although some people applauded Censori for her confidence, Pinelli added, “There’s a way to make a fashion statement without looking like you forgot your dress at home.”

While Censori’s look sparked controversy, other celebrities made fashion statements worth the risk.

Chappell Roan was another popular name of the night, as she stood out in her vintage Jean Paul Gaultier tulle gown. Mariacarla Boscono originally wore the look on the runway in 2003.

With her signature red hair, the electric blue and bright yellow dress turned heads.

“Her dress was colorful and bold but still sophisticated,” said Niki Papageorgiou, a psychology junior at UTampa. Roan’s outfit proved that sometimes bold style choices can make for unforgettable fashion moments.

Marine biology major Alyssa Plante said she watches the Grammys more for the outfits than the awards. “I love trying to figure out what went through their heads when they chose their outfits. Sometimes, the outfits are so out there that I’m left completely confused.”

Plante said that she was most confused by Jaden Smith’s Louis Vuitton outfit this year. “I have no idea why he was wearing a house on his head. The suit looked nice, but I just could not get over his headpiece.”

Taylor Swift appeared on the red carpet in a Vivienne Westwood gown. Viewers debated the meaning of the red dress and its resemblance to the color of the Kansas City Chiefs — the team her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays for.

Freshman Abby Damato even noted Swift’s red thigh chain resembling a rosary with a “T” charm connected to it.

“I’m not sure if the ‘T’ was for Taylor or Travis, but Swifties are definitely trying to figure it out,” said Damato.

Damato’s favorite look from the night was Sabrina Carpenter’s dress. With 80 carats of stunning diamonds, Sabrina’s stylist, Jared Ellner, nailed the look. Damato added that she thinks Carpenter’s look came together perfectly.

“Between her hair, makeup, and backless dress, Sabrina was glowing and looked so good,” she said.

Although Pinelli had the most to say about Bianca Censori, she also mentioned that she thought Carpenter looked gorgeous.

With a mix of stunning looks, bold statements, and unexpected controversies, this year’s Grammys left plenty to talk about on the red carpet. Although many fans argued about fashion statements from the night, everyone agreed on one thing: The fashion on the red carpet was just as entertaining as the awards themselves.
