Halloween is just around the corner and most of us are already planning on what costumes we will wear during the spooky time. There are many options and ideas for the costumes that we could choose this year. When I think of costumes for Halloween, the classics are vampires, witches, ghosts or pirates. However, there are always some famous characters from TV shows and movies that are the popular choice for costumes each year.

Last year some of the popular costumes were from the movie Top Gun: Maverick, along with Stranger Things, Cheerleaders, or even a dinosaur costume.

I used to love to dress up as Katherine Pierce from the Vampire Diaries, since it was always my favorite show or Twilight. Basically any vampire in general.

Here are some ideas for Halloween costumes and what I think will be popular this year:

So far what I have heard for quite a while now and what most of us might assume is that costumes from Barbie movie might be the most common choice, especially for girls. It might sound basic but with the popularity of the movie and many Barbie outfits to choose from, there are limitless options. One of the most iconic costumes from the movie that I have already seen on TikTok is the pink western cowgirl Barbie.

Along with Barbie guys can dress up as Ken. It would be an iconic duo, especially with Ken’s popular outfit with a white faux fur coat, bandana and sunglasses. But there are many outfits to choose from and be creative. 

Oppenheimer came out at the same time as Barbie so it also became very popular. A simple costume that can just include a white button-up shirt, pants with a blazer and black tie will do the trick. You could also add the hat. Since the actor Cillian Murphy played the main role, a very similar outfit could be used to dress up as a character from his other famous TV show The Peaky Blinders. 

Taylor Swift’s Eras tour has been widely popular so dressing up as one of your favorite Taylor’s era could be the choice. Or you could dress up in theme colors to any of her popular albums.

I think if a group decides to dress up as friends from Scooby-Doo that would be iconic. It is a perfect idea for Halloween, especially if you decide to dress up as Scooby. 

If you are a fan of the TV show Gossip Girl, dressing up with your friends, as Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf is another simple idea for a costume. There are many iconic outfits that you could choose from this duo, but a simple button-down shirt and preppy plaid skirt is a classic outfit from their school. You can get creative with accessories such as headbands.

Last but not least the movie Grease is a popular choice for costumes each year. You could dress up as Sandy and Danny at the end of the movie, both dressed up in black pants and shirts. Another option is to get matching pink jackets and black leather pants with your girl friends and be the group of Pink Ladies. 

Whatever you decide to dress up as in this year’s Halloween season, there are many options to choose from and you can get creative with any of them!
