The Super Bowl is back! After 18 weeks of regular season football, and three weeks of playoffs, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will battle it out for the Lombardi Trophy and title of Super Bowl champions. The game will take place at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 12.
The journey to Super Bowl LVII for the Chiefs and Eagles was one to remember. Both teams defied all odds to win their respective conferences, landing them a spot in the championship game.
Sophia Apparico- Gallagher, a junior AD/PR major, describes her thoughts on the final two teams.
“I am not surprised at all that these are the teams who made it to the Super Bowl,” said Apparico-Gallagher. I think everyone could have expected the Chiefs to make it all the way to the end, but I never doubted the Eagles, they really showed out this season.”
The Chiefs will make their Super Bowl appearance for the second time in the last three years, after losing to the Tampa Bay Bucs in Super Bowl LV 2021. After a close 23-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Chiefs were named AFC conference champions.
After a far win in the NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles fought their way to the Super Bowl. Concluding the home-field win, The Eagles will appear in the Super Bowl this season for the fourth time in team history.
Christopher Hills, a senior finance major, anticipates the outcome of this game.
“I truly don’t know what will happen in the end. I would love to see the Eagles come out on top, only because the Chiefs just won two years ago,” said Hills.
While the Super Bowl is already a highly-anticipated event each year, this year’s matchup has some extra interesting qualities. Super Bowl LVII will feature a matchup between brothers, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce.
This season’s championship game will also be the first to have two Black starting quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes, winning the AFC championship with an ankle injury, and Jalen Hurts, rushing 760 yards in the regular season, led their teams all season to get to this point.
Each year the Super Bowl has entertainment, including the coveted half-time show. This year will feature Riahnna as the headline performer. Apple Music is set to sponsor the half-time show in Arizona with a pre half-time show interview and program.
Jade Delvalle, senior marketing major, looks forward to watching Rihanna.
“While I do enjoy watching football, I am most excited to see Rihanna perform on stage this season. She is such an icon and one of the best half-time show headlines they have had in a few years,” said Delvalle.
Entertainment and football go hand-in-hand when it comes to the Super Bowl. Watch the Eagles take on the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII to see who will take the title of 2023 Super Bowl Champions and receive the legendary Lombardi Trophy.
