By Brianna Davila-Viera

Movie nights over winter break, or really any time of the year, are full of deciding whether the movie you have picked will be worth watching. For adventure movies, picking the exact kind of adventure you want can be tricky. Lucky for you, those nights are over because with this amazing list, you’ll have plenty of adventure movies to choose from, along with their sequels.

1.       Hunger Games Trilogy

This series of movies is something that will have you on the edge of your seat. The movie is about 12 districts where a boy and a girl will be selected as “tributes” and compete to the death in a televised event called The Hunger Games.” The main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, is from District 12. Everdeen volunteers in the spot of her younger sister and must rely on her hunting skills to make it through the games. That is what takes place in the first movie, and if you haven’t already, you’ll have to find out for yourself what is to come of the other two movies.

2.       Avengers Series

Now, this series will have you all over the place and will keep your movie nights busy. It seems that almost everyone has heard of the Avengers. A marathon of the four Avengers movies is almost guaranteed to have everyone at your house every weekend. The first movie follows the avengers as they are chasing Thor’s younger brother, Loki, when he gains access to the unlimited power of an energy cube called “the Tesseract.” Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D, initiates the formation of a superhero group that can capture Loki and bring the Tesseract back into his possession as well as defeat the threat to Earth.

The Avengers consist of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, and The Hulk. These superheroes will be considered Nick Fury’s dream team for America. The rest of the series is full of action and adventures to other worlds to save Earth. This action packed series is great for a night in or a movie party with others.

3.       Jumanji and Jumanji: The Next Level

This movie takes a comedic approach and will have you dying of laughter. From Kevin Hart’s humor and The Rock’s shiny bald head, you’ll be amused throughout the whole movie. You can also never go wrong with Jack Black in a movie. The movie starts with four high school kids discovering an old video game console and being drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. They discover that you don’t just play Jumanji; you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever. The second movie is something you’ll have to wait and watch for yourself.

4.       Pirates of the Caribbean

Who doesn’t love a bit of Johnny Depp and his infamous role as Jack Sparrow? We are throwing this choice way back to the early 2000s as the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released in 2003. This movie can bring some joy and memories back to us.

Captain Jack Sparrow arrives at Port Royal in the Caribbean without a ship or crew. His timing is inopportune, however, because later that evening the town is besieged by a pirate ship. The pirates kidnap the governor’s daughter, Elizabeth, who has a valuable coin that is linked to a curse that has transformed the pirates into the undead. A gallant blacksmith in love with Elizabeth allies with Sparrow in pursuit of the pirates. Give this movie a go and you might even end up watching the whole series and wishing that they never dropped Johnny Depp from filming another one.

5.       Black Panther

Black Panther is another Marvel movie that many of us hold dear to our hearts as we mourn the loss of Chadwick Boseman now two years after his death. In this movie, after his father’s death, T’Challa returns home to the fictional nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king and as “Black Panther,” getting tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of “Black Panther” to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people. The sequel was recently released on Nov. 11, and there have been mixed reviews on the movie.
