Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s New Series

On April 14, 2022, Hulu premiered the new reality show, The Kardashians. The new series stars Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner. All six women also serve as executive producers.

This may sound familiar. But don’t get confused with their previous reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which aired October 2007, and ran for 20 seasons, ending in March of 2021. The cancellation of the monumental show shocked the nation. Fans loved seeing the inside of these stars’ everyday lives, as they are one of the most famous families in the world.

Though the show was one of the longest-running reality television series in the United States, the family stated they felt suffocated by being followed around by cameras and felt they needed time to live their lives without the intrusion of a camera crew. After about a year of freedom, they decided it was time to make a comeback, but in a completely different way.

When creating the new and improved series, everything was kept top secret. Even the producers who interviewed to be hired for the series had no idea what they were being interviewed for.

“We said, ‘It’s about a group of six billionaire businesswomen, who are connected in some way, and they all run incredible companies.’ People were like, ‘Wow, that’s an amazing story.’ And then I would say that they are sisters, and everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds like the most fascinating family.’ They weren’t thinking it was a famous family,” said Executive producer Ben Winston in an article by Variety. “That’s the approach that we wanted to have.”

Danielle King, Emmy-nominated producer, was selected to be the showrunner for The Kardashians. King had never met the family when she was hired, and now speaks to them daily. Though, the question stands, how is The Kardashians different from Keeping Up With the Kardashians?

King told Variety that the show is created more in documentary style; extremely cinematic with the help of new camera equipment, drone use, etc. The show is now more intimate and more real than the early, semi-scripted series, Keeping Up With the Kardashians

Keeping Up With the Kardashians allowed the viewers to grow up with the family. Viewers witnessed them creating businesses, hitting puberty, and really finding themselves. The Kardashians pulls viewers in a different light. Now they’re adults and they’re living completely different lives than what was witnessed in the previous series.

The Kardashians covers them as business women and mothers, while also covering their romantic relationships and relationships as a family, of course. This new series dives into their true lives. Viewers see tabloids and reports all over the internet, what else do we need to know that we haven’t already read? Diving into the show will give us the opportunity to see inside their mind. What were they thinking? How did they get past that? Do the rumors affect them?

The worldwide known family, believe it or not, is just like us. What we see online or in a magazine can, quite literally, be completely made up. This show will give a chance to see the raw and true emotions that this family goes through. It gives us an opportunity to see what day to day life is like being a Kardashian, and boy, are we trying to keep up.
