Tampa’s Super Bowl LV Approaches

It is the time!

The Super Bowl matchup is set. The Weeknd is performing at halftime. What could be better?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the Kansas City Chief at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 7. The Buccaneers are the first team to play on their home field in the 55 years of the Super Bowl Era.

“Home Super Bowl for the first time in NFL history puts a lot of cool things in perspective,” said Tom Brady interviewed by NFL Network, “anytime you’re the first doing something, it’s usually a pretty good thing.”

However, in 2021 the COVID-19 pandemic is still happening. There will be regulations and protocols set to keep social distancing and wearing masks on the field and off the field. The NFL is allowing 22,000 fans to attend the Super Bowl games and 7,500 vaccinated health care workers. If there was no pandemic, Tampa Bay’s stadium has a capacity of 65,890. Do the Bucs have home advantage?

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians believe they do.

“I think the big advantage is we stay in our beds, sleep here, and do our normal routine. Nothing is out of the ordinary until we hit the media sessions. To be able to stay in your routine, sleep in your bed, and all that stuff, I think it’s a huge advantage,” said coach Arians on TSC News.

In Tom Brady’s first year in Tampa, he has already made history. Brady is the second quarterback to lead a team from both the AFC and NFC Conferences to the Super Bowl. Taking the Bucs to their first Super Bowl since 2002.

It will also be Brady’s 10th Super Bowl appearance. That is twice as many as any other quarterback in NFL history. Combining Super Bowl appearances from Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers is still four appearances short of Brady’s 10.

The only team with more than eight Super Bowl appearances is the New England Patriots. Tom Brady was in nine of the 11 appearances of the Patriots Super Bowl appearances. Brady is also the fourth quarterback to lead more than one team to the Bowl.

Brady became the third quarterback in league history to play in Super Bowl games in three separate decades. He has made the Super Bowl in 50% of the seasons he’s played as a healthy starter.

“You can see where Tom’s leadership on the offensive side is showing,” said Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on Pro Football Talk, “he’s playing at an extremely high level. And for somebody his age, it’s unbelievable. I mean, it’s unbelievable for a 25-year-old to be doing what he’s doing, let alone a 43-year-old.”

The Buccaneers aren’t the only ones who accomplished milestones this season. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season; however, some argue they are more potent this season with a regular-season record of 14-2. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in the MVP race, and his performances helped the Chiefs lock up the number 1 seed in the AFC.

“What Tom has done is historical, but if there’s another player who could do it, it’s Patrick Mahomes,” said Bruce Arians, according to CBS Tampa.

Patrick Mahomes is discussed as going to be the greatest of all time in the future. Tom Brady is considered as the greatest of all time now with already having six Super Bowl Rings. Some view this Super Bowl game as “GOAT vs. future GOAT” Mahomes is only playing his third year as a starter, the first season he won MVP of the league, and the second year he won the Super Bowl. Possibly in his third year, he can win his second Super Bowl and in back-to-back years.

Can the Chiefs repeat? If the Chiefs win this Super Bowl, can they win next year and make a three-peat? No team has done that before.

It is also a rematch of the last regular-season game the Buccaneers played in Week 12. Five of the previous seven rematches in the Super Bowl have been won by the team lost in the regular season.

Yet, when they faced off in the regular season. The Chiefs took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter of the game. Kansas star wide-receiver Tyreek Hill had 13 receptions, 269 yards, and three touchdowns. He even did a backflip right before scoring a touchdown. Kansas even tried to play a trick play of their tight-end Travis Kelce throwing the ball to Patrick Mahomes for yardage. In the end, the Buccaneers brought it to a three-point game but lost 27-24.

Kansas opened up as slight favorites as -3 against the Bucs. Vegas believes the Chiefs will win by more than three points. The Bucs will be wearing their white uniforms while the Chiefs will wear their red.

Tampa will have events and areas to watch the game. If watching at home, tune into CBS or CBS streaming services.
