Does your closet need an easy make-over? Here are five simple items that will enhance your wardrobe without busting your pockets on a shopping spree.
The Blazer
Whether you need something to keep your shoulders warm in those low temperature offices or a jacket for those breezy summer nights, blazers are a must. Blazers were notoriously known as the staple second half to a suit but in recent times has broken away from the standard and become the new go-to jacket. They can be worn in a more structured look or as a cute cropped style. When choosing your which type of blazer to wear it all depends on your outfit. I love to see the opposition in outfits that also somehow also make sense. For instance, a floral summer dress or a long sheer maxi paired with a tailored blazer is the perfect match for a summer day. Another style to try is a cropped or flowy blazer paired with cut-off shorts. This juxtaposition of business on top and party on bottom is unexpected yet fun.
A Statement Necklace
We often forget about accessories but they truly are just as important as your shoes or your purse, adding a certain presence to your outfits. If you can find at least one necklace that can spruce up any nonchalant outfit, then you’re golden. I am really into collared necklaces right now. The name describes them perfectly because they lay right on your collar. They should be worn where the necklace falls precisely at your collar bone. This style of necklace usually comes in gold but can also be found in other metallics. A chunky jeweled piece or a geometric pattern are always great choices. Add a statement necklace to your little black dress or when you’re just wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
The Day to Night Purse
With so many plans and such a short summer, you need your go-to bag that you can wear every day and night. The trick to choosing a bag that can be worn at all hours is to pick a purse that is medium-sized. It needs to be big enough to throw all of your necessities in but small enough that you can get away with wearing it out at night. There is no particular style that this bag must be. A bright cross body bag, an oversized clutch or a satchel are all bags that come in a variation of styles, colors and designers. These purses can dress your outfit up or chill them out.
Maxi Dresses
Words of wisdom: Stock up on as many maxi dresses as possible. They are so comfortable, affordable and stylish. The best part about this summer staple is they can also be worn almost anywhere such as your summer class, a day at the beach, a wedding, out to lunch, dinner, to the bar or to the mall. These dresses are acceptable to wear low-key or glammed up depending on the occasion and the maxi depends how to wear it. If you’re just hanging out, a jersey material dress matched with a pair of oxfords is perfect. For special occasions you might want to go for a silk or floral look and throw on a pair of heels. The only rule of thumb to remember when it comes to maxi dresses is that you must make sure they are long enough. There is nothing that looks worse than a maxi that cuts just above the ankles.
Wedges
There’s nothing sexier for the legs than a heel. For summer, what type of heel is more appropriate than wedges? While most people mistakenly have named wedges a day time shoe this is just not the case. Wedges can be worn during the day or at night. Once again, it just depends on the style of the shoe. Popular styles for the summer days are florals, tribal patterns or, of course, the reoccurring espadrille. For nighttime try a deep jewel tone, velvet or a chunky cork bottom. Aside from being adorable they are the most comfortable type of heels you will ever wear.
