It was quite an interesting week in fantasy football thanks to some unusual suspects bursting onto the scene.
Three wide receivers led the way in scoring this past week, with Cowboys Miles Austin leading that category. Austin, who could easily be considered Tony Romo’s 4th or even 5th option, snatched 10 balls, accumulating a ridiculous 250 yards with two touchdowns.
A usual suspect, Falcons’ receiver Roddy White, also had two touchdowns and over 200 yards on eight catches.
Rookie Jeremy Maclin had a breakout game for the Eagles as he nabbed two deep balls for touchdowns, equating to 142 yards total against the weak Buccaneers’ secondary.
Among others to surprise the fantasy world on Sunday were Austin Collie (Indianapolis WR), Dennis Northcutt (Detroit WR), Kellen Winslow (Tampa Bay TE), and Seattle’s defense/special teams.
While White is always a solid choice to start at receiver, Maclin and Austin are only owned in 8.5 and 2.4 percent of ESPN leagues, respectively. Look to pick up Austin, as Dallas quarterback Romo has desperately been needing to find a go-to target other than Jason Witten; Austin might be the guy. As far as Maclin is concerned, I would wait on him. Mcnabb usually has a receiver of the week, so this just could have been Maclin’s turn.
Giants’ running back Brandon Jacobs had another sub-par performance. He had only 60 yards in Sunday’s game against a poor Oakland team, and Ahmad Bradshaw seems to be sharing the work in the backfield. Jacobs, though only having one touchdown and one game with over 10 points this season, can only go up from here. At some point he will start cashing in on goal line carries. If you were going to trade him, now is not the time because his stock is so low.
Trent Edwards, Buffalo’s quarterback, had another terrible game, this time against an awful Browns team. The scene in Buffalo does not look good, so if you havent already, I suggest you drop him.
Others to drop- Jason Campbell, Glen Coffee.
Players to trade now for the highest value- Cedric Benson, Tashard Choice, Matt Hasselbeck.
Players to pick up- Torry Holt, Kyle Orton, Miles Austin, Donnie Avery.
