UT Students Hold Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service

TAMPA ‘- University of Tampa students, faculty and staff will honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s memory by giving back to the community on Monday, Jan. 19. The student volunteer center will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers can choose to serve at four local nonprofits:

Lowry Park Zoo ‘- cleaning and maintaining animal pens.

Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful ‘- meeting at Lithia Springs Elementary School and cleaning along Lithia Pinecrest Road.

Seniors in Service ‘- cleaning the apartments of seniors at Jewish Center Towers.

BAKAS Equestrian Center ‘- cleaning stalls, the barn and pasture and preparing the facility for a new class session.

Cracker Country ‘- cleaning and maintaining the museum’s buildings and grounds.

Volunteers will meet at 7:45 a.m. in the Plant Hall Music Room on the UT campus, and then buses will take them to the various sites. Students will return to campus at 12:30 p.m. The event is organized by the student-run PEACE (People Exploring Active Community Experience) Volunteer Center.
