Cooking in the Dorm: Cocoa Love

It is best observed in the raw, naked and purest form possible.

If not controlled, this becomes almost habitual, turning love into a dangerous obsession. I am already warped into these instinctive cravings for what has been described as, ‘the gift of the gods’.

Cocoa powder, praised in recent years by chocoholics and doctors for its high flavonoids content, improving cardiovascular health.

Originating from the cocoa bean, the powder is obtained after it is separated from the cocoa butter. The cocoa butter, sugar, and whole-milk provide the chocolate bar with its creamy taste but also preserve the beneficial properties of the cocoa. With high iron, fiber, and low-calorie content, the health benefits of the cocoa powder can be blended into a yummy smoothie.

Cocoa powder can be bought in the baking isle in both dark and milk chocolate. Substituting soy-milk for regular milk provides a creamier texture and a smudge of peanut butter gives the smoothie a more candy-bar like taste.

For those watching their sugar content substitute regular sugar for an artificial one. Body-builders can add a scoop of protein powder to the mix. Getting that sinful chocolate craving has now never been so sweet.

2 cups of crushed ice

1 cup of skim milk

1 tablespoon of crunchy or soft peanut butter

2 tablespoons of coco powder

1 tablespoon of sugar/ Splenda (add more to taste)

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. If more sugar is desired, return the mixture to the blender and puree until mixed.
