The sound of bells chime through the air as the Wind Ensemble sits motionless waiting for Dr. Terry Mohn to end their final recording of “Carol of the Bells” for UT’s Annual Holiday Greeting Card. This year, Vice President of Enrollment, Barbara Strickler came up with the idea to incorporate the Music Department into this year’s interactive electronic card. This card will go out to 40,000 people reaching around the nation (via email and the UT website) to friends of the University, faculty, every current student, alumni, applicants, local high schools, and more! This season UT’s Office of Admissions and UT’s Music Department have teamed up to give out the gift of music.
Barbara Strickler has been working very closely with Cherry ‘ Company who has helped in developing the interactive media with seasonal imagery. They have designed the backdrop to portray nighttime around Plant Hall. The music will begin, followed by animations and holiday wishes. At the bottom of the card, several UT student ensembles will be featured as downloadable holiday music. These ensembles range from the Wind Ensemble, to the Orchestra, to the Women’s Glee Club, to Opus, and finally to the Collegiate Chorale.
“We have to keep up with the marketplace – it’s time to utilize the technology we have! I’ve always thought so highly of the Music Department and I couldn’t wait to incorporate them into this year’s greetings. People will be able to hear them all season long and for seasons to come,” Strickler explains enthusiastically.
There will be an icon on the UT home page where anyone can receive the gift of music. So look forward to December 10 because the email will go out in the morning!
