Off to See the Wind Ensemble!

When you were a child, did you enjoy the movie Fantasia? Well, on Oct. 6, UT’s own Wind Ensemble will be performing a variation on this theme live in Plant Park, with their special event “A Night at the Movies”.

The evening will have a full schedule of events where bands will perform orchestral pieces from the scores of such movies as The Wizard of Oz, The Simpsons, Star Wars, The Lion King, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Lady and the Tramp, Pirates of the Caribbean, and 1812 Overture (which includes real cannon fire from Tampa’s “Gunner’s Guild Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla”).

As the bands perform these pieces, a huge movie screen will play the appropriate clips from the movies for all to enjoy.

Blake High School’s own Wind Ensemble will start off the festivities at 7:30 p.m., followed by The University of Tampa’s Wind Ensemble.

Since this is a free-of-charge, “family friendly” event, it is suggested that everyone who comes bring a beach towel and a picnic basket full of food, because this is something that everyone will enjoy.

Be sure to arrive early and get a good parking spot, because free parking on campus and at the First Baptist Church means there’s a good chance the parking will fill up quickly!

This event is being sponsored by Student Productions, the UT Department of Music, and Media Services.

Considering the talent level of UT’s Wind Ensemble, this looks to be an exciting and festive occasion, and I would recommend this to all of my friends to attend, and you should tell your friends about it as well.

If you’d like to know more about this event, call UT’s Music Office at (813) 253-6212, e-mail them at music@ut.edu, or read about it at http://www.ut.edu.

Remember, 7:30 p.m. in Plant Park on Oct. 6!
