Ok, believe it or not, my last article for The Minaret will be movie reviews.
Though I haven’t been a big movie-goer this semester, I certainly will catch up on my favorite past-time during the summer.
For this review, I decided to take a look at some of the movies that I know everyone will be looking out for. Coincidently, all of these movies are coming out during the month of May.
It seems like the best things this summer come in threes when it comes to movies.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, think about this: “Spiderman 3,” “Shrek 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 3.”
We all said “wow” when Peter Parker finally got the girl of his dreams in “Spiderman 2.” This time Spiderman returns with Mary Jane at his side, fighting villains and saving the day. However, Peter Parker has to face villains and his worse enemy yet himself.
In this part of the trilogy, Spiderman’s suit changes from red to black and enhances his powers.
But when the suit changes, it also changes Peter bringing a dark side to the hero.
Among all of this, Spiderman must face his most diabolical enemies yet Sandman and Venom.
Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst return as Peter and Mary Jane, respectively, in what promises to be the best action film of the summer.
This movie will hit theaters May 4.
My next pick of the summer comes as no surprise. It is extremely funny and everyone loves this big green monster.
Our favorite ogre is back, and this time he has a new mission. When the frog king of “Happily Ever After” croaks, Shrek is selected to be the new king.
However, because our swamp friend isn’t used to being the head of a kingdom, he sets out to find Princess Fiona’s cousin Arthur, who is the rightful king.
While he’s gone, the most handsome villain, Prince Charming will return trying to swipe the kingdom.
Shrek also has to prepare for a new addition to his ogre family.
With all of our old friends like Donkey and Puss in Boots, I’m sure this movie is going to be laugh-your-head off funny.
I can’t wait until it comes out. It is high on my list for a good comedy, and it should be on yours too.
Last, but not least is the movie that made everyone want to be a pirate. “Pirates of the Caribbean” has a special place in my heart.
The main reason why it does is because I am absolutely in love with Johnny Depp in this film.
While I’m sure everyone was upset at Elizabeth Swann for causing our beloved pirate’s death in “Dead Man’s Chest,” most peoples’ eyes must have gleamed when they found out there was a chance to save him.
So, in this part of the trilogy, our favorite characters come together to save Jack by sailing to the ends of the earth.
Of course, with all movies there is more to the story. When they finally do find Jack, more trouble is a foot.
The freedom of being a pirate is at stake, not to mention Jack and his crew must continue their fight against Davvy Jones who is causing havoc across the seven seas.
Can Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann battle Jones and save the beloved pirate hood? Let’s hope so.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” comes to theaters May 25.
With this line up for the month of May, I can’t imagine how this could not be a great movie summer. This just goes to show the best things come in threes.
Have a great movie summer!
