Crackdown Puts Players on the Other Side of the Action

Crackdown” for the XBOX 360 isn’t the most original game but is one of the better games that have come out recently.

There are many similarities to “Grand Theft Auto” but they are easy to get past.

First things first, “Crackdown” has gorgeous graphics.

When you are standing on top of a building you jumped to and looking out at the bay, yeah. It’s pretty fricken sweet.

The main character, no matter what model you pick, seems to be quite built up in the muscle factor. Makes me kinda jealous.

The sound is clean and crisp. The constant rail of the machine guns doesn’t seem to become old.

The only annoying thing about the game is the voice of person who talks in the dossier.

He makes random comments and repeats them without mercy.

There may be helpful hints in what he says, but that is only when he first says them.

The selection of guns is very large.

What is special about this weapon system is you can pick up a gun anywhere in the city and bring it back to a weapons supply point.

Whenever you go out into town again you can use that gun.

The only bummer is you can only hold two guns and one type of grenade at once.

The names for the weapons are also confusing.

There is probably fifty “MA- whatevers” that the gangs have. ARGH! What gun am I picking up?! Wait, that’s a grenade?

Car-jacking is exactly the same as “GTA.”

You press a button to open the car door, pull the civilian out and get in the car.

Most of the cars are a little slow.

Semi-trucks aren’t as fun to drive because they take forever to get going and you will probably hit more people because you can’t steer it worth anything.

There is one thing that takes “Crackdown” away from the normal “run around the city and shoot people in gangs and such” game.

You have five certain attributes that you build up as you go about cleaning the city of scum-bags.

My personal favorite is the agility attribute.

By building up your agility you can jump higher – amazingly high – and longer, run faster, and pick things up.

The higher the level, the better it gets.

Picking up cars never could have been this fun.

The point of the game is to shut down the three gangs that are infesting the three islands in the city.

This is where the racial stereotypes abound.

There is a Latino gang, a Chinese gang and a Russian gang on each island that is doing something illegal.

I guess anarchy. Do I smell a republican?

When you are making your way about the city, there are gang members looking to kill you.

They will get out of their cars, or whatever it takes to take you down.

Oh, and shoot at you.

The missions pop up on your screen whenever you are near one of the gang leaders you need to kill.

“Crackdown” slightly makes itself an individual from the “GTA” series with a couple of special features in the game but falls short in the originality.

The attributes keep the game interesting.

Overall, it is a great game that every 360 owner should buy.

This will be the perfect addition to your small library of good games.

The bottom line: “Crackdown” for the X BOX 360 a 8.5/10.
