Weekend’s Gasparilla Film Festival Includes Student Films and Young Filmmakers

As part of the Gasparilla Film Festival this weekend, Campus Movie Fest, the world’s largest student film festival, will show the top sixteen films from its 2005-2006 tour 8 p.m. Saturday at Channelside. The Gasparilla Film Festival is produced annually by the Tampa Film Institute. See the festival’s Web site for information on the venues (The Tampa Theatre, Ybor and Channelside).

The Gasparilla Film Festival will show films in the following categories (See below for a list of films):

Showcase of the Americas – These are films shot in or that are about the Americas, both North and South America.

‘ New Horizons – These are films that would qualify as experimental or art related.

‘ Shorts – These are films that are under 60 minutes and can be of all different genres. ‘ There is a music sub-category for music videos or films about music in this ‘ section of the festival. The music videos must be no more than 5 minutes in length. ‘ The festival seeks to showcase the connection between music and film ‘ in this category.

Fun ‘amp; Fear – This is the section for comedies and horrors.

Features:

Motherland Afghanistan
An Afghan-American documentary filmmaker follows her father, who specializes in women’s medicine, to Afghanistan, where one in seven women dies during childbirth.

12:08 East Bucharest
An old retiree searches for an answer to the question, did a revolution really take place in his city.

Callback-
The time has come for actor Jake Bannon to prepare for his final call. He must turn his journey inward and let his character lead the way. It is a last desperate attempt for success when all else has failed.

Memorias del subdesarrollo, Memories of Underdevelopment.
