Christin Campbell’s one-woman crew will be taking over a corner of Vaughn Lobby in coming weeks, bringing artists to the University.

The first event took place on March 27. The exploratory event was planned, orchestrated and overseen by Campbell. The effort was a solo one, for now.

“Even now I’m looking for other board members.”

A member of the Academic Affairs for the Honors Council, Campbell plans to extend the exhibit into a series featuring local artists exercising their creativity in areas yet untouched by the mainstream.

Campbell hopes to feature three artists in the Vaughn lobby within the next two weeks, with each giving a short seminar on their art in the days following their exhibits. Jonathan Chateau is the next scheduled artist in the series.

Monday’s event featured the work (both finished and in progress) of Shawn Arnow.

Hailing from the Channelside District, Shawn operates under the moniker ‘Lady Picasso’ and has had her work featured in several other events around the Tampa community.

Visually appealing, vibrantly colorful and highly interactive, Arnow mirrors her work, displaying as keen of an interest in the students as the students showed in her work.

The display enlivened the Vaughn lobby on what would have otherwise been a typical Monday.

The expo might have caught some off guard. There had been no advertising and no attempts to garner student support. Yet, despite the lack of promotion (and perhaps thanks to the exhibit’s prime location in Vaughn Lobby), passerby students seemed eager to get involved.
