The Kanas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions, defeating the San Fransico 49ers 25-22 in a come-from-behind overtime victory.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with wide receiver Mecole Hardman for a walk-off touchdown to seal the victory for the Chiefs.
The Super Bowl victory is the second straight for the Chiefs and their third in five seasons. It also marks their second win over the 49ers in the Super Bowl after beating San Francisco in the 2019 season.
Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He led the Chiefs on a game-tying drive at the end of regulation then the game-winning drive in overtime. He converted two first downs with his feet in the extra session, including a run on fourth-and-1 to keep the Chiefs alive.
Mahomes was awarded the Super Bowl MVP trophy for the third time.
Tayden Orenstein, a senior at The University of Tampa studying entrepreneurship, said that Super Bowl LVII will go a long way to seal the fate of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ legacy.
“I think after this game, Pat Mahomes must be talked about as the greatest quarterback of all time,” Orenstein said. “He’s done it year in and year out; he is becoming the GOAT right before our eyes.”
Kansas City’s victory makes them the first team in almost 20 years to win back-to-back Super Bowls, the first since the New England Patriots accomplished the feat in the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
