Record-Breaking Season Ends in Regional Finals

(UPDATED: 11:07 p.m. on May 10)

A two-out bases loaded double ended the best season for Tampa softball as the Spartans fell 2-0 to Barry University.

The loss came in the South Regional finals, the first time Tampa advanced that far in tournament history.

Deanna Henriott, Ashley Arcuri and Ashley Carrea were named to the All-Tournament team for their performances.

More than six hours after they started, the University of Tampa softball team found themselves a step closer to a South Regional title and managed to break four school records in the process.

Freshman Deanna Henriott’s complete game effort gave her the school record for wins in a season with 22, and her 12 strikeouts also set a mark for the season.

Ashley Carrea homered for the third straight game, also a UT record. She is hitting .667 in the regional tournament, with 7 RBI. The team has scored eight times this postseason.

The six hour, 29 minute game was postponed twice for lightning. The first delay lasted only 52 minutes, but the second storm held off the game for more than three hours.

Tampa is 33-12 on the season and plays second-ranked Alabama-Huntsville at 11 a.m. (in progress).
