Add up the UT basketball team making the NCAA tournament, the Division I Final Four at the St. Pete Times Forum, and the impending WNBA pre-draft workouts and draft, and you have a recipe for women’s basketball overload in the Tampa Bay area.
Although their college team bowed out in the first round of the Big Dance, UT will host a preseason WNBA game between the Washington Mystics and the Sacremento Monarchs on May 5 at 7 p.m.
The women’s D-I Final Four will be held this weekend at the Forum, with LSU facing off against the winner of Tennesse and Texas A’M. In the other semifinal, Stanford will face either Connecticut or Rutgers.
A number of standout NCAA players will also be attending a pre-draft workout in the next few weeks at UT and at the Forum.
As Tampa is a city that lacks a professional basketball team, many have seen this as a precursor to drawing a WNBA team to town.
