This is Homecoming!

Despite a distinct absence of swords, shields, loincloths and bloodied corpses, SP will be making sure that everyone knows “This is Sparta!” during Homecoming Week 2007.

Favorite events such as Casino Night will be making a triumphant return to the picture, and some new events will be available as well.

Comedian Steve Hofstetter will be performing at 8 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the Vaughn Courtyard, and later in the week there will even be a spirit parade.

Three years ago, Homecoming had its own committee before moving under the umbrella of Student Productions. The Committee chose to work under Student Productions because they are better suited for organizing larger functions.

During Homecoming week it is not uncommon to witness the athletic marketing staff cruising around campus in colorfully decorated golf carts, singing cheers from behind the wheel.

The golf carts contribute in various ways to getting the attention of UT students for Homecoming events.

The Saturday evening soccer game is typically a big draw, as all the contest winners from the week’s events as well as the Homecoming King and Queen are announced at the game.

As a result, UT’s student clubs and organizations make it a point to be present at the game in order to see if their organization has won anything.

Due to Stadium Center’s construction, the traditional bonfire was not held last year.

Bob Ruday, the Dean of Students, served as last year’s Grand Marshal, leading the parade for the Homecoming spirit walk.
