The UT baseball team had high expectations coming into the season. With a starting lineup comprised of five juniors and three seniors it seemed like the team’s experience would be a major factor in their success. But it has been the play of freshmen first baseman Jose Jimenez that has surprised fans.

Jimenez has put up big numbers at the plate, batting .364 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI through 36 games. Jimenez has been equally impressive in the field; he has committed just one error in 273 chances.

Before coming to UT, Jimenez was one of the top players in the state of Florida. In his senior year of high school Jimenez hit batted .485 with seven home runs earning him first team All-County and second team All-State.

Jimenez has been a big contributor off the field as well. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a volunteer at the Battered Women’s Foundation of South Florida.
